All Star Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep General Manager to Throw Out First Pitch at Cardinals Game!
May 11th, 2011To heighten awareness of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare blood disease that shortens children’s lives, the St. Louis Cardinals will provide a pre-game ceremony allowing Justin Akin, (General Manager of All Star Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep) the opportunity to throw out the first pitch, May 31st, Cardinals vs. Giants. 7:15 pm. The Cardinals always make a strong effort to support Children’s Charities. Justin and his wife, Kristin, lost both their children within 9 months of each other due to HLH. This has led the Akins on a quest to help other parents of terminally ill children with HLH and establish the Matthew and Andrew Akin Foundation www.matthewandandrew.org. To raise awareness of HLH, Justin will embark on a 1,216 mile bike ride traveling Route 66 from Amarillo, TX to Chicago, IL. NOTE: Justin is not a practicing cyclist. He is riding for his children, to make up for their lost miles, since they can no long ride their bikes down the street. Justin is also doing this because he can, to illustrate that so many of us take for granted the things that we can achieve. Justin’s bike tour will begin Sunday, May 22nd in Amarillo, from “The Big Texan”, famous “Home of the 72oz. Steak” and conclude in Chicago, at Buckingham Fountain, June 5th, on what would have been his son Andrew’s 4th birthday. Justin will ride through St. Louis, May 31st, stopping here for a night’s rest and to throw out the first pitch at the Cardinals game. Please join him at the game, or go along for the ride…Justin will be updating his ride daily with video, photos and content on www.afathersride.com. Justin’s primary goal is to raise awareness of HLH blood disease, to fund research and urge people to join the National Bone Marrow Registry.
